Excerpt from new 31 devo I'm working on. We are showing and sharing our fruit every day. God compares us to trees in the Bible many times.
#7 Day 5
( unedited & un proofed )
Day 5
Isaiah 61:3
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
Trees of righteousness. We have been planted by the Lord. In Bible language we are considered trees. We need to bear good fruit. It’s more than appearance. Have you ever seen a beautiful orange? Yet, when you peeled it the slices were dry and had no flavor. Apples? Grapes? It happens. We may not realize how many people are inspecting our fruit. On the kingdom side of bearing fruit we must show kindness even when we are not being treated with kindness. Bitter and sweet water can not come from the same fountain. The bitter will always dominate. We need to be able to show forth beauty even in the ugly times. Praise him in the hard times. Truly we produce fruit everyday. Will it be sweet or bitter?
Prayer
God I know you compare me to a tree. Just like the real fruit tree even in the winter times of my soul I will stay connected to the life giving source. Help me to show forth kindness. To be a help when someone is needing a friend. I can’t just look good on the outside. I have to be able to speak words of encouragement into a desprate situation. Thank You for the simplicity of Your Word. For being patient with me. Teaching me how to bear the fruit of the spirit. I will glorify You each time that someone picks fruit from my life. Amen
