Blessed are the poor in spirit!
Blessed
The Greek word translated blessed in these passages is makarioi which means to be fully satisfied. It refers to those receiving God's favor, regardless of the circumstances”
Matthew 5: 3. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Here are three things that the Kingdom of God/Heaven means:
1. The rule of Jesus Christ on earth and in heaven
2. The blessings and advantages that flow from living under Christ's rule
3. The subjects of this kingdom, or the Church
Fully satisfied are the poor in spirit.
If I could reword poor, I would say blessed are those who are not prideful or haughty
Yet we have to becareful not to go way far on the other side too,
Not poor pitiful me..
Humble, almost like a beggar, totally dependent on God.
You almost have to talk about the opposite to understand the wording in this particular verse.
Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Romans 12:3
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
1st Timothy 6:17
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
1st Corinthians 1:27
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
1st John 2:16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
I was asked to teach on the beattitudes at my home church. I did a little deep dive into the surmon on the mount and was able to bring some light to this famous passage, from my own study and much prayer. I will share some of the understanding that I was able to receive while preparing for this teaching. Over the next few weeks I will share the scriptures and insights that I was able to glean from it. Hope you enjoy growing in the Word of God as much as I do. I told the church that this was just a few scriptures that I felt would be a good fit. The word is inexhaustible. These 8 beatitudes are just a drop in the bucket to all the others that are found through out the bible just in different forms.
